Peking University Law School Ranks 22nd Globally in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025

Peking University Law School (PKULS) has been ranked 22nd worldwide in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 for Law & Legal Studies, rising nine places from 2024 and retaining its position as the top law school in mainland China. The ranking is based on indicators including Academic Reputation (ranked 19th globally), Employer Reputation, Citations per Paper, and H-Index.

In recent years, PKULS has consistently strengthened its research ecosystem through interdisciplinary initiatives, academic platform development, and organized research programs. The School has actively promoted international collaboration via long-standing forums such as the PKU-HKU Annual Law Conference and the BESETO Law Conference with the University of Tokyo and Seoul National University, as well as the PKU-Yale Forum on Legal Education.

In 2024, designated as Peking University’s “Year of Discipline Quality,” PKULS hosted over 100 academic events and saw faculty publish extensively in both Chinese and English on cutting-edge topics including AI, data protection, and cross-border legal governance. Notably, Prof. Chen Xingliang’s Humanistic Foundation of Criminal Law was published overseas through the national "B&R Book Program." Works by Prof. Che Hao and Prof. Zhu Suli were selected for the “Chinese Academic Translation Project” for international publication. Several faculty members received prestigious national awards, and notable scholarly works were selected for China’s “Chinese Academic Translation Project” and other international publication initiatives.

The School has also advanced global legal education through innovative programs, including the pioneering PKU-HKU Dual Bachelor of Laws degree, new LL.M. and J.D. collaborations with institutions like the National University of Singapore, and student exchange and internship partnerships with organizations such as the University of Oxford and the Astana International Financial Centre. PKULS continues to cultivate high-caliber, interdisciplinary legal talent with global competence, contributing to China’s participation in global governance.
