Recently, the course "Legal Services and Risk Management for Cross-Border Transactions - A Common Law Perspective" has successfully concluded in the spring semester of the 2024-2025 academic year.
Co-launched by Peking University Law School (PKULS) and The Law Society of Hong Kong since 2019, the course is organized by A.P. Dai Xin, tenured associate professor of PKULS. All sessions are delivered by practicing lawyers with extensive experience in cross-border legal practice in Hong Kong. The Law Society of Hong Kong takes charge of curriculum design, coordination and speaker selection, and has appointed many outstanding lawyers to teach students practical skills in international legal practice and cross-border legal services. The content covers theoretical and practical knowledge in fields such as Hong Kong's legal system, cross-border investment, commercial crimes, and international commercial dispute resolution, with in-depth analysis and discussion on specific cases to enhance students' legal analysis capabilities and practical skills from multiple perspectives.
Open to third and fourth-year undergraduate students, Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Juris Master (JM) students of PKULS, the course also offers auditing seats for on and off-campus participants. This semester, it attracted undergraduates, postgraduates, international students and exchange students from other departments, as well as enthusiastic participation from alumni who are already practicing lawyers.
The course is mainly taught in English, with course materials, classroom presentations, group demonstrations and homework all in English, supplemented by necessary Chinese to improve students' proficiency and work habits in conducting legal practice in English. Learning methods include case reading, lectures by lawyers, group discussions, group presentations and mock arbitration. After the course, The Law Society of Hong Kong conducts a comprehensive evaluation of students' classroom performance and course examinations.
