Peking University Law School Hosts 2025 Autumn Semester Welcome Reception for International Students

As autumn deepens and the campus welcomes new minds, Peking University Law School (PKULS) successfully held its 2025 Autumn Semester Welcome Reception for International Students on the afternoon of September 4, 2025, at the Guoshuang Courtyard. The event warmly welcomed incoming international students enrolled in the Master’s Program in Chinese Law and exchange programs from around the world, offering them a heartfelt greeting as they begin their academic journey at PKULS.

In attendance were Guo Li, Dean of PKULS; Liu Zhewei, Deputy Dean; faculty representatives; and dozens of Chinese and international students. The reception was presided over by Dai Xin, Deputy Dean of PKULS.

At the outset, Dean Guo delivered welcoming remarks. He extended a warm welcome to all new students and highlighted PKULS’s long-standing legacy and global outlook. He expressed his hope that international students would fully embrace the unique opportunities offered by studying at PKULS, serving as bridges to foster mutual understanding and exchange among diverse legal traditions.

Prof. Zhao Hong, speaking on behalf of the faculty, shared insights drawn from her own academic journey, underscoring the significance and value of studying Chinese law at Peking University. She offered practical advice to help international students navigate life and study at PKULS, encouraging them to make full use of the school’s rich academic resources, delve deeply into the essence of China’s rule-of-law culture, and actively engage in cross-cultural dialogue—ultimately becoming legal ambassadors connecting China with the world.

Representing the incoming cohort, Francisca Sandoval, a Chilean student in the Master’s Program in Chinese Law, and Federico Jose Trella Samper, an Argentine exchange student, shared their motivations for choosing PKULS and articulated their aspirations and plans for the upcoming academic year.

Xu Xintong, a second-year master’s student and current PKULS representative, spoke on behalf of the student body. She will undertake an exchange semester at the Peter A. Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia, in Spring 2026. She expressed her eagerness to broaden her international perspective and develop a more inclusive, multifaceted understanding of law through this experience. As a language partner representative, she also offered practical suggestions to support incoming exchange students in adapting to campus life, encouraging everyone to explore freely and embrace a vibrant, enriching exchange experience.

Following the formal ceremony, the faculty and students moved to the networking area for a relaxed and convivial “Happy Hour.” New and returning students engaged in lively conversations with professors on topics ranging from academics and daily life to cultural exchange, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere.

This welcome reception not only provided international students with a valuable opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Law School and connect with peers but also reinforced PKULS’s commitment to cultivating an open, inclusive, and globally engaged academic community—marking a warm and promising prelude to the new academic year’s international collaboration.
