The Australian National University President Brian P. Schmidt Visits Peking University Law School

At 5:00 pm on May 3rd,2018, Peking University Law School met the Australian National University (ANU) principal, Brian P. Schmidt, winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize in physics, and Sally Wheeler, Dean of the ANU Law School. Deputy Dean Wang Xixin, Prof. Xu Aiguo, A.P. Chen Yifeng, A.P. Hao Tian and Director Li Yuanyuan of the Office of Foreign Affairs gave the guests a warm reception in the Courtyard.

First, Vice President Wang Xixin and Dean Sally Wheeler of the Australian National University Law School conducted a cordial and friendly talk on strengthening exchanges and cooperation. Peking University Law School is willing to work closely with the Australian National University Law School, including but not limited to exchange students, cooperative research, and Peking University Law School common law teaching programs.

The Australian National University Law School was established in 1960 and is dedicated to the areas of commercial law, international law, public law and environmental law. Graduates not only engage in lawyer work, but also actively participate in social changes and make outstanding contributions in improving public policies and strengthening global diplomacy.According to the 2018 QS World University Rankings, Australian National University Law School ranks 12th in the world and 2nd in Australia.Jolyon Ford, the Associate Dean of the Australian National University Law School, inquired closely about the opening of the short-term curriculum of Peking University Law School and discussed with the Deputy Dean Wang Xixin about the cooperation plan.In addition, the two sides also exchanged views on inviting professors of Peking University Law School to open courses on "Chinese law and society" and conduct teacher exchanges.

 

 

Later, Prof. Brian P. Schmidt, President of the National University of Australia, met with colleagues of Peking University Law School and colleagues from King & Wood Mallesons for a friendly conversation. Peking University Law School and King & Wood Mallesons launched the Peking University King & Wood Global High-end Law Merchants Program in 2017. The Australian National University is very interested in this and hopes to discuss the possibility of future cooperation between the three parties.
