On May 17th, Chinese Law LL.M. Program students and some exchange students visited the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC). Dr. Chen Jian, Director of Division of International Case, gave them an excellent lecture.
Mr. Chen introduced the basic information about arbitration and the practice of CIETAC, such as the basis of arbitration, the history of arbitration all over the world and in China, the features of arbitration, the major international arbitration institutions, the establishment of new arbitration centers and the development of CIETAC. Mr. Chen also talked about the possible future events of arbitration. The students asked questions actively and showed keen interest in the topics.
Then, Mr. Chenshowed CIETACto the studentsby visiting thefiling room, the conference rooms and arbitration halls. Interestingly, Mr. Chen explained the calligraphies hanged on the wall of the arbitration halls to the foreign students. The calligraphies like the Chinese ancient saying “Tolerance is one can be austere without selfish desires.” made the students well understand the nature of arbitration, as well as the extensive and profound culture of China.
The visit offered students a great chance to learn about the Chinese arbitration practice and Chinese arbitration law. At last, group shot was taken to mark the occasion and the activity had been successfully ended.
