UNInternational Law Commission MemberProf. Shinya Murase Visited PKULS

Invited by International LawInstitute of PKULS, Prof. Shinya Murasevisited Peking University Law School on December 11th, 2015, deliveringa wonderful lecture to the students.

Prof. Shinya Murase, member of the United Nations International Law Commission, Chairmanof the International Law Association,Executive Committee of Japan Branch. He served as Prof. of Sophia University Law Department and now is a visiting Prof. of China Youth University for Political Science Law School. Prof.Shinya Murasepossessed a solid foundation and high academic attainments in areas including theory of international law, international environmental law, international dispute settlement,and has published severalmonographs.


Themed“Critique: International Customary Law”, Prof.Murase’s lecturecriticized the work done by the UN International Law Commission in the aspect of international customary law. This lecture was host by Prof. Li Ming. Attendants includedProf. Zhu Wenqi, from RUC Law School, Prof. Liao Shiping, from Beijing Normal University, Chen Xiaohua, from China Youth University for Political Science. A.P. YiPing and A.P. Chen Yifengfrom PKULS alsotook part. Doctoral students who majored in international law also came to listen.


The calm and objective attitude, incisive analysis, vivid explanationsof Prof.Muraseimpressed the participants profoundly. The lecture then entered into several heated discussions.Finally, A.P. Chen Yifeng made a concluding statement. Prof.Murase's lecture inspired us to think about profound questions like“the future of the United Nations International Law Commission”and“how could the UN contribute to the international rule of law”.
