Yale Law School Dean Gerken Visits Peking University

On January 9, 2025, Heather K. Gerken, Dean of Yale Law School, led a delegation to visit Peking University. Fang Fang, Standing Committee Member of the Peking University (PKU) Party Committee and Vice President, met with Dean Gerken and her delegation at Linhu Xuan.

Fang Fang extended a warm welcome to Dean Gerken and provided an overview of Peking University’s international collaborations. He emphasized that Yale University is a key partner for Peking University, particularly highlighting the frequent and fruitful exchanges between Peking University Law School and Yale Law School. Notably, the “Peking University–Yale University Joint Research Center on Law and Policy Reform” stands as a model of their cooperation. Fang expressed hope that, building on existing collaborations, the two law schools could further expand joint academic initiatives and global programs, offering broader international platforms for faculty and students, deepening mutual ties, and pioneering new chapters in legal education cooperation.

Dean Gerken thanked Peking University for its hospitality and noted that the longstanding partnership between Yale Law School and Peking University Law School vividly reflects the close relationship between the two institutions. She stated that their collaboration has not only infused new vitality into legal education in the U.S. and China but also built a critical bridge for academic exchange between the two countries’ legal communities. Gerken expressed her desire to continue fostering innovation in legal education and research through joint projects, scholarly exchanges, and faculty-student interactions, addressing legal challenges in an increasingly globalized world.

Also present at the meeting were Guo Li, Dean and Party Secretary of PKULS; Dai Xin, Vice Dean of PKULS; Zuo Yilu, Assistant Dean of PKULS; and Zhou Manli, Deputy Director of PKU’s Office of International Cooperation.

Prior to the courtesy meeting, Dean Gerken and her delegation attended the “Peking University–Yale University High-Level Forum on Legal Education: Yale Law and China” held at Peking University Law School.
