Recently, Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2025 was officially announced. Based on the five indicators of teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry, Peking University Law ranked 14th in the world and 1st in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) with a total score of 78.7 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject, which demonstrates the strong strength of Chinese universities in the field of law.

Over the years, Peking University Law School has adhered to Xi Jinping's thought on the rule of law as a guide, adhered to the open philosophy of running schools “based on China and with an outlook on the world”, continued to optimize the mode of cultivating talents in rule of law related to foreign countries, and strengthened the combination of theory and practice, so as to provide talents and academic support for the strategic layout of rule of law related to foreign countries.

The College has pushed forward the reform of talent cultivation and teaching, initiated a new round of revision of undergraduate cultivation program, and pushed forward the reform of LLM sub-direction. The “Peking University - The University of Hong Kong Dual Bachelor of Laws” degree program welcomed its first graduates, and the cultivation effect met the expectation. The “Digital Law” LLM program and the “Dual LLM in Maritime Law” jointly established with the University of Hong Kong responded positively to the needs of the country and the demands of the society. We further promoted the construction of various teaching materials, and the teaching materials edited by teachers were approved as the key project of “Quality Undergraduate Teaching Materials” for Beijing universities. To deepen the summary of teaching experience and exchange of ideas, we invited senior professors and outstanding alumni to be the keynote speakers and organized 10 teaching salons; we successfully held the third national training course for teachers of legal education on the theme of “teaching methods of public law: curriculum design and case study”; as the chairman of the school, we actively promoted the “Professional Degree in Law and Society” of the school. As the chairman of the university, the university actively promotes the construction of “Law and Society Professional Degree Sub-committee”, and promotes the cross-cultivation of social sciences. It also systematically carries out practical teaching of ideology and politics, organizes activities such as campus publicity and education on law, community consultation on law, and study on the rule of law for primary and secondary school students, so as to convey the power of China with the voices of young people.

Third National Seminar for Teachers of Legal Education

In the field of academic research, the School continues to build a stable, active and diversified scientific research platform, and actively participates in the construction of the disciplinary system, academic system and discourse system of philosophical and social sciences with Chinese characteristics through continuous and high-quality academic production, and promotes the construction of the discipline of law with fruitful scientific research achievements: 10 teachers were awarded the “Outstanding Achievements of Higher Education Schools in Scientific Research Award of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China” in the Ninth Session. Ten teachers won the “Ninth Ministry of Education Award for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research of Higher Education Institutions”, and a number of young and middle-aged teachers won the 10th Qian Duansheng Award for Achievements in Legal Research, the first “Gao Mingxuan” Academic Award, and the 11th Award for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research of Young and Middle-aged Scholars of Constitutional Law. The School continues to organize the “Experience and Methods of Academic Planning” salon series and the “Law+” interdisciplinary salon, inviting top scholars in the field of humanities and social sciences to share their academic experiences with the faculty members of the School of Law, so as to build a relaxed, harmonious and aggressive scientific research ecosystem, and to build a high-quality and open platform for academic publications, as well as a platform for detailed and in-depth research. It also aims to build a relaxed, harmonious and aggressive research ecology, a high-quality and broad academic publication platform, a detailed and deep-rooted academic publication platform, a stable and continuous academic exchange platform, and a think tank that pursues excellence and truth-seeking.

Peking University Law School continues to deepen international academic exchanges and broaden the scope of global cooperation, and systematically cultivates high-quality foreign-related rule of law talents who are well versed in and able to shape international rules, comfortably handle foreign-related legal affairs, and comfortably participate in international cooperation and competition. Through high-end degree cooperation, international training and internship, foreign-related rule of law courses, scholarships for study abroad, and optimized brand activities, the School integrates high-quality teaching resources from both inside and outside the University, and comprehensively promotes a new mode of globalized legal education. Peking University Law School is committed to expanding the field of social services, contributing to the popularization and dissemination of jurisprudential knowledge and the concept of the rule of law, effectively promoting the understanding and support of the society for the national rule of law cause, and infusing the rule of law into the country's intellectual innovation and cultural prosperity. For the fifth consecutive year, the College has launched the “Peking University Public Service Cloud Course” project, which has been viewed by more than half a million people, vividly demonstrating its academic heritage and humanistic sentiment; it has made efforts to deepen the cooperation and exchanges with the legal practice departments, and has provided customized high-end training services in a variety of fields including foreign legal services, compliance and risk control, and internationalization strategy of enterprises. We have provided in-depth, customized and high-end training services covering multiple fields such as foreign-related legal services, compliance, risk control and corporate internationalization strategy, helping to improve the professional performance of practitioners; adhering to the concept of “fusion of law and business, righteousness and innovation”, we have co-ordinated and carried out the training program of “Beijing's 100 high-end foreign-related rule of law talents”, carefully constructed a dual narrative framework for the rule of law at home and the rule of law abroad, and promoted academic research and judicial practice. The year 2024 marks the 120th anniversary of the founding of Peking University Law School, and the School has achieved remarkable results in the fields of talent cultivation, academic and scientific research, international cooperation, social service and cultural heritage and innovation. In the future, Peking University Law School will further respond to the requirements and expectations of the Party and the State on the construction of high-level research universities and the rule of law in foreign affairs, continue to focus on the goal of “cultivating people with moral integrity and cultivating people with both morality and law”, improve the mechanism of cultivating talents for the rule of law in a practice-oriented manner, and cultivate more talents who have a firm political stance, strong professional qualities, a good understanding of international rules, and proficiency in the practice of foreign-related law. We will cultivate more foreign-related rule of law talents with firm political stance, excellent professional qualities, good knowledge of international rules, and proficiency in foreign-related legal practice, so as to contribute to the formation of a concerted pattern of foreign-related rule of law work, to serve the opening up of the world at a high level, to tell the story of China's rule of law in the new era, and to create a favorable external rule of law environment for the advancement of the Chinese style of modernization.
