Mr. Cheung Kwok-kwan, Deputy Secretary for the Hong Kong Department of Justice, led a delegation to visit Peking University Law School

On June 13, 2024, Cheung Kwok-kwan, Deputy Secretary for the Hong Kong Department of Justice, and his delegation visited Peking University Law School. The delegation was received by Guo Li, Dean of Peking University Law School, Dai Xin, Vice Dean of Peking University Law School, Professor Chen Duanhong and Professor Zhang Xiang.
Dean Guo Lei firstly expressed his warm welcome to Deputy Secretary for Justice Cheung Kwok-kwan and his delegation, and briefly introduced the development history of Peking University Law School and the latest progress of talent cultivation, especially the relevant situation in cooperation in legal education and research with the legal profession in Hong Kong. He said that Peking University Law School has always attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong. Since 2017, Peking University Law School and the Hong Kong Department of Justice have jointly established a student internship program, which has been widely welcomed by Peking University Law School students. This year is the 120th anniversary of the founding of Peking University Law School, and we look forward to further deepening the understanding and cooperation between the two sides through this in-depth exchange.
Cheung Kwok-kwan, Deputy Secretary for the Hong Kong Department of Justice, highly recognized the remarkable achievements of Peking University Law School in legal education and research, and thanked Peking University Law School for its longstanding support to the civil servants of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR) and the Department of Justice. He said that over the past years, civil servants of the HKSAR have benefited greatly from the opportunity to receive training at Peking University on China's national conditions and “One Country, Two Systems”. In recent years, the HKSAR Government has attached great importance to the rule of law in foreign affairs, and has been preparing for the establishment of an institution for training talents in the rule of law in foreign affairs, in the hope of enhancing the training of legal talents from Hong Kong and the Mainland, and looking forward to the future cooperation with Peking University Law School in expanding the cooperation in the field of training talents in the rule of law in foreign affairs.
After the meeting, accompanied by Dean Guo Li, Deputy Secretary for Justice Cheung Kwok-kwan visited the teaching and research facilities of Peking University Law School, and highly appreciated the teaching environment and academic research atmosphere of the school.
The visit of Deputy Secretary for Justice Cheung Kwok-kwan and his delegation not only enhanced the understanding between the two sides, but also laid a solid foundation for future cooperation. Peking University Law School is looking forward to closer cooperation with the Hong Kong legal profession in the fields of legal education, scientific research, and practice, so as to cultivate more excellent talents and make greater contributions to the rule of law practice and legal research of the two places.
