Date:2024-11-03
In late March 2024, the “Global Faculty Scholar” of PKULS and Director of the Center for Chinese Legal Studies at Columbia Law School, Prof. Benjamin L. Liebman, visited PKULS to give a series of lectures. Prof. Liebman presented a thematic academic report to faculty and students and offered tailored guidance sessions on research methodologies and educational development for Master’s and Ph.D. law students, which were enthusiastically received. During his time in Beijing, he engaged in open and constructive communication with leaders of relevant departments on professional topics such as arbitration, notarization, and commercial mediation.
Supported by the PKU Dao An Law Fund, PKULS launched the first “Global Faculty” program within law schools in China in 2018. To date, 23 internationally renowned professors and legal practitioners from world-class institutions, including Yale University and the University of Oxford, have been invited to serve as Global Faculty Scholars. Through regular visits, these scholars contribute to PKULS’s mission to become a world-leading law school by enriching talent cultivation, academic research, and resource development.
The year 2024 marks the 120th anniversary of establishing legal studies at Peking University. PKULS will continue to fulfill the “Year of Disciplinary Quality” objectives, leveraging the opportunity to develop two national research and teaching platforms: the PKU Foreign-related Rule of Law Research Base and the Collaborative Innovation Base for Foreign-related Legal Talent. These efforts will drive the high-quality development of PKU’s legal discipline and provide academic support and talent for advancing Chinese modernization along the path of the rule of law, in line with the nation’s foreign-related legal strategy.
