Students from Peking University Law School's LL.M. (International Arbitration) Joint Program visited the Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Center.

In order to implement the crucial directive of General Secretary Xi Jinping regarding the advancement of foreign-related legal professionals, Peking University School of Law initiated the LLM Degree (International Arbitration) Postgraduate Cultivation Programme in 2023. The Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Centre (BAC/BIAC) serves as one of the programme's collaborative training institutions. The Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Centre (hereinafter referred to as "BAC") is one of the joint training units of the programme.

On November 3, 2023, Prof. Zhang Zhiyong and Prof. Gao Wei from Peking University Law School and students from the International Arbitration Program visited the BAC for a discussion and exchange. After arriving at the BAC, the students first visited the office space and library to experience the working atmosphere. Ms. Wang Ruihua, the person in charge of the case filing office, warmly received the visiting teachers and students and guided the visit, and introduced the development history of the BAC in detail.

 

Subsequently, the teachers and students of our institute and the representatives of the BAC had a discussion in the conference room. Guo Wei, Director of the BAC, Chen Fuyong, Deputy Secretary-General, Wang Ruihua, Head of the Case Filing Office, Yang Yufei, Senior Counsel of the Business Development Division (International Cases Division), and Lin Jie, Arbitration Secretary, participated in the discussion and exchange. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Secretary-General Chen Fuyong.

Director Guo Wei extended a warm welcome to the teachers and students of Peking University Law School, and spoke highly of the cooperation mechanism and achievements between the BAC and Peking University Law School in cultivating foreign-related talents. He introduced the institutional reform, the selection and appointment of arbitrators, and the construction of the arbitration secretary team of the BAC. He emphasized that it is of great significance to maintain long-term cooperation and development with Peking University Law School and jointly cultivate foreign-related legal talents to promote the professional development of foreign-related rule of law in China. He hoped that the students would cherish the learning opportunities, continuously improve their professional skills, and aspire to grow into high-quality foreign-related legal talents.

 

Mr. Zhang Zhiyong expressed his gratitude to the BAC for its warm reception. He introduced the basic situation of the Master of Laws (International Arbitration) program of Peking University Law School, and thanked the BAC for its long-term support in teaching and internship on behalf of the school. He said that since its establishment, the BAC has developed rapidly and made outstanding achievements, and he believes that Peking University Law School can work together with the BAC to cultivate more and better foreign-related legal talents for the country.

 

Yang Yufei, Senior Consultant of the Business Development Office (International Cases Division), shared with the students on arbitration practice and career development of arbitration secretaries. She introduced the institutional characteristics of arbitration as a dispute resolution method, the advantages of BAC as an arbitration institution, and introduced the main work content and career development path of the arbitration secretary.

In the free exchange session, the representatives of the BAC gave professional and detailed answers to the questions raised by the students, such as the arbitration rules, the drafting and validity of arbitration clauses, the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards, and online arbitration, and the atmosphere was warm. Through this exchange and discussion, the students had an in-depth understanding of the relevant knowledge of arbitration and a deeper understanding of arbitration work.

Finally, the teachers and students of the Law School and the representatives of the BAC attended a group photo, and the discussion ended successfully.
