Zhang Xiaohan, a student at Peking University Law School, has been named the 2022 Rhodes Scholar

The list of winners of the 2022 Rhodes Scholarships was announced on December 8. Peking University Law School has been awarded Rhodes Scholar for the third year in a row. Zhang Xiaohan, Master of Law, Class of 2021, was one of the four Chinese Rhodes Scholars who won the award in the eighth batch. She is the fifth student from Peking University Law School to receive this award, following Zhang Wanyu (2015), Jordan Gifford-Moore (2016), Lei Qi (2020), and Wang Fengquan (2021). Peking University Law School has become the domestic university department with the largest number of award-winning students since the Rhodes Scholarship entered the Chinese Mainland/mainland in 2015.

 

 

 

Zhang Xiaohan adheres to both academic research and legal practice training, and has been committed to the research and practice of public law and privacy law for a long time. She has won honors such as the National Scholarship for Graduate Studies and the Three Good Students at Peking University with her first place in her professional field. During the study of Constitution and Administrative Law in Peking University Law School, Zhang Xiaohan has accumulated strong academic interest and solid knowledge foundation, especially in the influence of technology and specialization on modern public law, and the institutionalization of public participation to promote the combination of democracy and science in technological governance. Her papers on public law and privacy law all obtained full marks in the required courses. She also participated in the administrative trial system reform project led by the Supreme People's Court, and participated in the drafting and compilation of the judicial interpretation of the Supreme Court and the minutes of judges' meetings. She worked as a research assistant at the Law and Development Institute of Peking University and the Intelligent Law and Law Institute of Tsinghua University, and was responsible for the sub-project of the National Social Science Foundation Project. Her article in the field of Interpretive theory on the basis of the legality of personal information processing was invited to report her research results in the postgraduate forum of "Technological Innovation and Economic Rule of Law" hosted by Beijing Law Society, and won the first prize. In addition, as the team leader, Zhang Xiaohan led the Beijing University team to win the national runner-up in the 18th CASC Cup Manfred Lacks International Space Law Moot Court Competition held by China Space Law Society, and won the title of Outstanding Oralist.
