Peking University Law School team won the championship of the 21st Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in China

From February 24th to 28th, 2023, the 21st Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition China Division Selection Competition was held online. After intense competition, the Peking University team, composed of law school teachers and students, stood out among the 57 teams and won the championship. This is the sixth time in the history of the Peking University team that they have won the championship in this event. Lu Yujin was awarded the title of "Best Oralist".

 

The current Peking University delegation is guided by Assistant Professor Liao Xuexia from the Law School and Law School Alumni Huang Yuxiang. Shan Weitong, a 2019 undergraduate student from Yuanpei College, serves as the student coach. Lu Yujin, a 2021 master's student from the Law School, and Zhao Xing, a 2019 undergraduate student from the Law School, also serve as the oralist. Li Fuhan, a 2021 master's student from the Law School, and Su Dongyu, a 2019 undergraduate student from the Law School also serve as the oralist Ma Yanru, a 2020 undergraduate student, and Zheng Huiwen, a 2020 undergraduate student from the School of Foreign Languages, serve as researchers.

 

 

Since the announcement of the competition questions in September 2022, all team members have been fully committed, carrying out thorough and meticulous preparation work, reading a large amount of literature and conducting in-depth research and discussion, carefully writing and polishing books, and conducting high-density simulated court defense training. On the field, our school team members responded calmly with solid professional skills and skilled court defense skills, demonstrating profound legal literacy, good logical thinking ability, and excellent court defense skills.

 

 

During the preparation process for the competition, alumni such as Zheng Yuan, Peng Xiwen, Chen Jing, Yang Ken, Zhang Wanyu, Li Mengyi, Li Jiayi, Fan Xiaolu, Sun Yixian, Lei Qi, Shen Yiming, Chen Haiwen, Zhou Yitong, Jiang Yuxin, Wang Fengquan, etc. provided valuable advice and assistance, and the Law School Youth League Committee provided good organizational support for the competition team. The team received support from the Dao An Law Foundation of Peking University.

 

The Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is a professional legal debate competition organized by the International Law Students Association (ILSA) of the United States. It is currently the largest, oldest, and most recognized mock court competition in the international community, and is known as the "Olympic competition" in the international legal community. Since the first time the competition was held in the Chinese competition zone in 2003, the Peking University team has won the Chinese competition zone championship five times in 2006, 2012, 2015, 2016, and 2018, respectively. This time, they have won the Chinese competition zone championship again, demonstrating the profound foundation and strong strength of Peking University Law School in the long-term development of domestic and foreign legal talent. In April 2023, the Peking University team will participate in the 64th Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition International Tournament.
