Peking University Law School team wins the 16th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition in Mainland China

On the evening of November 27, the 16th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition in mainland China came to a successful conclusion. This year's competition, jointly organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Chinese National Committee for International Humanitarian Law and Lanzhou University, attracted a total of 60 teams from universities in mainland China to participate.

After a fierce competition, the Peking University team, formed by students and faculty of the Law School, emerged as the winner. Lu Yujin won the title of "Best Oralist in the Final Round" and "Best Defence Counsel in the Preliminary Round". The team won the title of "Best Oralist in the Final Round" and "Best Defense Counsel in the General Rounds", and Su Dongyu won the title of "Best Defense Counsel in the General Rounds".

This year's Peking University team is guided by Ms. Liao Xuexia from the School of Law, Huang Yuxiang (Law School alumni) as coach, Su Dongyu (2019 undergraduate student from the School of Law) and Lu Yujin (2021 master's student from the School of Law) as debaters (oralist), Ma Yanru (2020 undergraduate student from the School of Law), Li Fuhan and Shi Tianqi (2021 master's student from the School of Law) , and Zheng Huiwen (2020 undergraduate student from College of Foreign Languages) as researcher. Zhao Xingyi (2019 undergraduate student from the School of Law) and Shan Weitong (2019 undergraduate student from the Yuanpei College) served as student coaches.

During the two-day competition, the team members were well prepared and played steadily. Facing the questions from the judges and the sharp rebuttals from the opponents, they were organized and flexible in their defense, showing their solid legal foundation, meticulous logical analysis and agile thinking ability, which were highly praised and well received by the judges.

During the preparation of the event, Xie Yang, Chen Haiwen, Jiang Yuxin, Zhang Yuyan and other teachers and friends inside and outside the university offered valuable helping hand, and the Law School League Committee and other departments provided good organizational support for the team, and received support from Peking University's Dao-An Law Foundation.

Since its establishment in 1863, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has made the promotion and development of international humanitarian law one of its core activities. In March 2023, the Peking University team will represent China in the 21st Asia Pacific Red Cross Moot Court Competition on International Humanitarian Law. We wish the Peking University team a great success in the Asia-Pacific competition!
