"Build up your strengths and skills, Sail again, A new chapter in the training of global rule of law talents"——2022 "Peking University - Jones Day China Global Legal Talent Development Program" and "Cross-Border Legal Lawyer Practice Course" Opening Ceremony was successfully held

On the afternoon of September 14, the opening ceremony of the 2022 "Peking University - Jones Day China Global Legal Talent Development Program" and "Cross-Border Legal Lawyer Practice Course" was successfully held online. Attorney Peter J. Wang, Head of China Antitrust Services and Partner of the Hong Kong office of Jones Day Law Firm, Attorney Tang Chenghui, Partner of the Hong Kong/Beijing Office of Jones Day Law Firm, Jiang Fan, Administrative Director of the Beijing office of Jones Day Law Firm, Professor Pan Jianfeng, Dean of Peking University Law School, Dr. Li Yuanyuan, Assistant Dean and Director of the Office of External Affairs, and nearly 200 students with high hopes and expectations attended the ceremony.

1. Young Lawyers Show Their Talents in the International Arena

On behalf of Peking University Law School, Dean Pan Jianfeng firstly expressed his gratitude to the colleagues of Jones Day Law Firm and congratulated the students who were finally selected for this year's program. As a leader in legal education and the cultivation of foreign legal professionals, Peking University Law School has set the core objective of cultivating foreign legal professionals who understand and can shape international rules, handle foreign-related legal affairs with ease, and participate in international cooperation and competition. In 2012, Peking University Law School and the American Jones Day Law Firm established a formal cooperation relationship. In the three years from 2018 to 2020, more than 40 lawyers from Jones Day participated in "Cross-Border Legal Lawyer Practice Course", and jointly trained nearly 200 students from six law schools in Beijing, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, and China University of Political Science and Law. In 2021, 113 students from 25 law schools graduated from the first "Peking University - Jones Day China Global Legal Talent Development Program".

Dean Pan earnestly hoped that through the joint efforts of the students, they could make the "Peking University - Jones Day China Global Legal Talent" more resounding, and also hoped that the students would take up the social responsibility of young legal professionals, not only to show their personal talents and abilities on the international stage, but also to make their due contribution to the greatness and mission of China.

2.Legal practitioners help to practice the globalization of the rule of law

Attorney Peter J. Wang introduced the development of Jones Day Law Firm, especially the ambition and action of Jones Day Law Firm in the cause of cultivating international legal talents. Over the years, Jones Day and Peking University Law School have continued to deepen their cooperation, promoting the participation of business leaders from major global offices in course delivery, allowing more law students to understand global, multi-disciplinary legal practice and more people to benefit from global trends and trends.

As an important leader and promoter of the "Peking University - Jones Day China Global Legal Talent Development Program", Attorney Tang Chenghui, from her own practice experience, focused on international trends and pointed out that the topics of the course were deeply in line with the background of the times. Attorney Tang expects that the students will gain from the well-organized program and will become top talents in all types of international legal affairsthen contribute to the rule of law in China and the world.

3.A new chapter of learning and practice for law students

Chen Yuexin, a 2019 undergraduate student of Peking University Law School and a participant of the PKU-HKU Dual Degree Program, is an outstanding representative of the 2021 "Peking University - Jones Day China Global Legal Talent Development Program". She shared her learning achievements.

Zhang Yutong, LLM 2022, Peking University Law School, and Li Yichen, LLM 2021, Tsinghua University Law School, on behalf of the 2022 program participants, shared their expectations and aspirations for the program and their outlook on their studies and career development, respectively.

"Peking University - Jones Day China Global Legal Talent Development Program" will officially begin on September 21, with 16 online courses, lectures on cutting-edge international legal topics, visits to law firms and internship opportunities. Nearly 200 students who are looking forward to the program will officially begin their exciting learning journey.
