Lee Andrew Bygrave: The Legal Regulation of Automated Decision-making

The rapid development of digital technology has posed a new challenge to the construction of the rule of law in the digital age. Peking University Law School held a series of forums on "Digital and the Rule of Law" in September 2022. The theme of this forum was "Privacy and Data Protection in a Global Perspective", and well-known scholars from Japan, Europe, the United States and China were invited to discuss this core theme.

On 22 September 2022, the third lecture in a series of forums on "Digital and the Rule of Law" at Peking University Law School was given by Lee Andrew Bygrave, Professor of Law at Universitetet i Oslo School of Private Law and Director of the Norwegian Research Centre for Computer and Law. He gave a fascinating two-hour online lecture on the theme of "The Legal Regulation of Automated Decision-making". The lecture was moderated by Associate Professor Hu Ling of Peking University Law School, and nearly 400 teachers and students participated in the event.

Introduction of the keynote speaker:

Professor Lee Andrew Bygrave has served as an expert adviser on technology regulation for numerous institutions, including the European Commission, the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers and the Government of Norway. Professor Bygrave has published widely in the field of data protection law. He is co-editor and co-author of the book Commentary on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), published by Oxford University Press in 2020. His scholarship on data protection has been recognized by the EU Court of Justice.
