As an organic part of the cultivation of students' comprehensive quality and the construction of campus culture, Peking University Law School has long been committed to promoting the "Second Classroom Program for Young Legal Talents". In 2021, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, especially Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, the Law School further strengthened the collaborative innovation in all fields and actively encouraged students to participate in all kinds of second classroom activities. On July 1, 2021, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China was solemnly held in Tian’anmen Square in Beijing. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President of the State and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the conference and delivered an important speech. Volunteer service

For a long time, PKU Law School has attached great importance to youth volunteer service. Based on its professional characteristics, widely mobilized the youth, the Law School has constantly improved its volunteer service system, amassed volunteer forces of the youth, relied on student organizations to develop youth volunteer service.

Legal Aid Association and the 23rd Graduate Support Team of Peking University held online law publicity lectures for more than 800 teachers and students of Anxin Middle School.

PKU Law School established a Civil Code student preaching team at the end of 2020. Since the establishment of the team, 14 lecturers and 79 staff members have formed a total of 13 excellent lecture themes after 19 collective lesson preparation discussions. A total of 42 online and offline lectures have been carried out, reaching more than 5400 people.

Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic are two landmark events at an important historical node of our country. It is also an important opportunity to display the national image, promote the national development and inspire the national spirit. The Law School implemented the work deployment of the superior, vigorously mobilized the Law School students to actively participate in the Winter Olympics volunteer work, 32 students were hired as official volunteers and game interns.

Focus on academic frontiers and achieve outstanding achievements

In 2021, PKU Law School actively organized students to participate in various academic competitions represented by the "Challenge Cup", which gained fruitful results. In the 29th "Challenge Cup" series competitions of Peking University, the Law School won two first prize, two second prizes and four third prizes of the May 4th Youth Science Prize Competition; one third prize of cross-disciplinary academic scientific and technological work competition; one third prize of special contribution prize competition, and three prizes of excellence. 

Outstanding Achievements in court debates and practical training

In 2021, PKU Law School team competed to be the first in domestic and overseas international legal practice competitions, showcasing the outstanding presence of young legal practitioners and fully demonstrating the fruitful results of the Law School in the training of outstanding foreign-related legal personnel.

From March 14 to 21, the Peking University team stood out from a total of 147 teams from 37 countries and regions to win the global top 32 and the Respondent's Petition with Excellence Prize in the 18th Wilem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot Arbitration Competition. This is the best result obtained by China's institutions. In the round-robin competition, the Peking University team ranked eighth in the world in terms of points, scoring the best result in this competition by Mainland China's institutions in recent years.

In the domestic competition of the 2021 International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition, the Peking University team won the "Overall Championship" and the "Best Petition" award in the China division. In the international competition, the Peking University team continued its excellent performance, finishing 13th in the preliminary round, entering the quarterfinals and eventually advancing to the semifinals, becoming one of the top nine teams in the world, marking the best result ever achieved by a Peking University team in the International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition.

In 2021, Peking University Law School was awarded the Rhodes Scholar for the second year in a row. Fengquan Wang of the Class of 2018 was one of the four Chinese Rhodes Scholars to win the prize, making Peking University Law School the most Rhodes Scholars since 2015.

Upright Class Spirit, and Hand in Hand Striving to Be First

In 2021, the Law School classes continued to carry out the study and education of the Party history, deepen the ideological and political guidance, and create a strong style of study and firm belief in the class.

             

Class 2 of 2021 LLM (Law) organized the class to watch the CPC Central Committee Press Conference online to learn the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.

Based on the actual situation of class construction and the practical needs of the youth, the Law School classes also actively responded to the call of "I do practical things for the teachers and students" practice activity, carried out a variety of help activities and volunteer service activities, integrated volunteer service into the class construction, and constantly sharpened their original mission in practice.

Classes 1, 2 and 3 of 2017 and Class 3 of 2020 carried out exchange and co-construction activities, helping junior students plan their academic lives.

All classes fully mobilize the youth, give full play to their professional strengths, actively participate in various volunteer service activities, and integrate volunteer service into the class construction.

Form teachers and second form teachers of each class of the Law School visited the classes and carefully guided the classes to carry out theme education, Party and Youth League Day, practice visits and other activities.

    

Nian Yijia, the form teacher in charge of Class 1 of 2019, and Zhang Ting, the second form teacher in charge, organized the students to carry out a theme day and a spring outing at the China Science and Technology Museum and the Olympic Forest Park.

Class 1 of 2021 LLM carried out an educational activity themed on "the History of the Centenary of Struggle of the Party and the Chinese Constitution", and form teacher Zhang Xiang explained to the class about the Party history study and constitutional law research.

In the 2020- 2021 school-level group award, Class 3 of 2020 for undergraduate, Class 1 of 2020 for LLM, Class 4 of 2020 for LLM (non-law) and Class 4 of 2020 for Ph.D. of the Law School as the advanced class of the 2020- 2021 academic year of Peking University, and Class 1 of 2019 for undergraduate were awarded the demonstration class of the 2020- 2021 academic year of Peking University, which fully demonstrated the positive collective spiritual outlook of the Law School and a good class atmosphere of unity and cohesion.

In 2022, the Law School will continue to study and implement the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee in an in-depth manner, firmly practice Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, and continue to integrate and make good use of valuable ideological and political resources left over from the centenary event of the founding of the CPC and the volunteer service at the Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Winter Games, innovate and improve the contents and forms of second classroom activities, and guide law students to grow into legal professionals with firm ideals and beliefs, strong feelings for family and country, and solid legal foundation. We will create a new situation in the new era for the training of top-notch innovative legal professionals, and celebrate the centenary of the League, especially the successful 20th National Congress with outstanding achievements.
