At 18:40 on February 28th, 2022, Peking University Social Law Forum Lecture Series No. 68, "The History and Future development of International Labour Protection", hosted by the Institute of Labour and Social Security Law of Peking University, was successfully held at Room 106 of the Third Teaching Building of Peking University. The lecture was chaired by Prof. Ye Jingyi, Director of the Institute of Labour and Social Security Law of Peking University, and given by A.P. Chen Yifeng. The lecture is part of the Law School graduate course "Topics in Labour and Social Security Law" in the spring semester of 2022.

Based on the development of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and international labour law, A.P. Chen presented the students with different perspectives and different ways of analysis in three units: the Development of Labour Standards made by ILO, the Proliferation of Labour Standards and the Rise of Transnationalism, and the ILO and China.

In the first unit, A.P. Chen introduced the background and development of the ILO, the basic principles, structure and main functions of the ILO, and pointed out that the ILO is not only a labour protection standard-setting body, but also links labour protection to global peace. In the second unit, A.P. Chen expounded and analyzed the proliferation of labour standards and the rise of transnationalism. He introduced the core goal of labour protection and the background of the basic labour rights, and explained the complexity of the transnational issues of labour protection. In Unit 3, A.P. Chen focused on the role and influence of the ILO in the development of labour protection in modern China.

In conclusion, A.P. Chen emphasized that, in the vision of globalization, the labour issue is not purely a technical topic, but a comprehensive economic, social and philosophical issue, and encouraged students to conduct interdisciplinary research based on labour law.

Prof. Ye thanked A.P. Chen for introducing the development and history of the ILO to the students, and communicating fully on the future research directions and methods of international labour protection. She highly valued the interdisciplinary and multi-perspective social law discussion and analysis mentioned in the lecture, hoping that students could learn from the academic methods and attitudes of A.P. Chen.

At the end of the lecture, present students took a photo with A.P. Chen. Through this lecture, the students have a preliminary understanding of the history, development and future direction of international labour protection, and deepened their understanding and mastery of social law analysis perspectives and research methods.
