2021"Peking University-Jones Day China Globalization and Legal Talent Training Program", namely "Cross-border Legal Lawyer Practice Course" has been launched

On the afternoon of September 15, the 2021 Peking University-Jones Day China Globalization and Legal Talent Training Program, namely “Cross-border Legal Lawyer Practice Course” was held successfully. Affected by the epidemic situation, the event was held online. More than 160 students participated in the program. Wang Zhiping (Peter J. Wang), partner in the Hong Kong office and head of Jones Day's China Antitrust Legal Services; Tang Chenghui, managing partner of Beijing office; Jiang Fan, Executive Director; Guo Li, Party Secretary and Vice Dean of Peking University Law School; Li Yuanyuan, Assistant Dean and Director of External Affairs Office participated in the opening ceremony together.

1.  Cooperation and upgrading: Carefully build talent training programs

Peking University and Jones Day established a friendly and cooperative relationship in 2012. Thereafter, Jones Day has set up a number of important programs at Peking University Law School, including "Professor Chair in Globalization and the Rule of Law", "Research Center for Globalization and the Rule of Law" and "International High-end Forum on Globalization and the Rule of Law", etc., which have strongly promoted the international development of Peking University Law School. In 2018, the parties launched the Cross-border Legal Lawyers' Practice Course. Since the launch of the course, over 40 lawyers have participated in the course and nearly 200 students from 6 universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University and Renmin University received training. On behalf of Peking University Law School, Professor Guo Li, Party Secretary and Vice Dean of Peking University Law School, thanked Jones Day for its contribution and hoped that the participating students would cherish the opportunity and gain something from it.

2.Cultivate talents with a global perspective

Lawyer Wang Zhiping introduced Jones Day: Jones Day has a history of more than 120 years, and now its branches have spread all over the world's major economic and financial centers. It is one of the largest international law firms with the most extensive geographical coverage. Jones Day has been advocating the importance of foreign legal personnel education and training. Bu Ronggen (Stephen J. Brogan), the founder of the cooperation between Peking University Law School and Jones Day and the global managing partner of Jones Day, once stressed that globalization is still the most important development trend in today's world. In order to make globalization truly contribute to talent cultivation and economic prosperity, it ultimately depends on the importance and continuous promotion of the rule of law.

Tang Chenghui, managing partner of Jones Day's Beijing office, pointed out that Jones Day has experienced legal practitioners from all over the world. Leading partners and senior lawyers are actively participating in the "Cross-border Legal Practice Course", hoping to share their years of experience in foreign legal practice with students. Every lecture lawyer for course made great effort and painstaking effort, carefully selected the most popular legal practices, cutting-edge theme as topics, including mergers and acquisitions, network security and data protection, antitrust and competition law, bankruptcy law, environmental protection, capital markets, the us export control and foreign investment review, the criminal procedure law, etc. The latest and cutting edge legal issues will be fully addressed in the course. Through the course, students will study the conduct of investigations against large digital platform companies in the US; In the course of export control and foreign investment review, we will further study whether it is legal for the US government to impose export control sanctions on Chinese telecommunications companies and list them on the military list. Through Jones Day's lectures on the criminal procedure law in the United States, students can learn about the details of criminal procedures in the United States and make a judgment on the legality of the recent arrests of some China-related professors in the United States.

3. Speeches by the students representative

At the opening ceremony, Jiang Hewen, 2020 master student of PKU Law School and 2020 course participant, shared his learning experience with everyone. Sun Wen, a graduate student of Yan Jing School of Peking University in 2021 and a participant of the "China Globalization and Legal Talents Training Program" in 2021, expressed her understanding of the course. They said that the Cross-border Legal Lawyer Practice Course has a comparative perspective, an optimized teaching structure and a reasonable assessment method that are unmatched by other courses. From a comparative perspective, students can survey British and American legal rules and classic cases, and form a clear understanding of the basic situation of a professional legal field in three major jurisdictions in a short period of time. The teaching structure is structured around the hot and international field of practical law, helping students to grasp the basic framework of a professional field in a short time. The course adopts the unique take-home Exam of British and American Law schools to let students experience the real work of lawyers in advance.

This "China Globalization and Legal Talents Training Program" highlights the determination and efforts of PKU Law School as a leader and practitioner of global legal education. Through 16 online courses, international cutting-edge legal lectures, Jones Day visits and internship opportunities, students will broaden their international horizons and improve their international legal knowledge and practical ability.
