As an integral part of students' comprehensive quality training and campus culture construction, the Law School has long been committed to promoting the "Second Classroom Program for Young Legal Talents". In 2020, with Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era and Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law as its guide, the Law School has been closely focusing on the goal of "cultivating people with morality and law". Based on the characteristics of the faculty and the needs of young people, the Law School has fully explored the resources of anti-epidemic and ideological instructions, built a platform for ideological education, further strengthened the collaborative innovation of all aspects of talent training, and actively encouraged and guided students to participate in various second classroom activities, and achieved fruitful results in practical education.

Thinking and practicing: physically and mentally

The Law School has been actively responding to General Secretary Xi Jinping's youthful call to "unite knowledge with action and be a practical person", keeping in mind the fundamental task of establishing moral education, and devoting itself to carrying out social practice activities while carrying out professional education and teaching, guiding students to be rooted in China, understanding national and social conditions, strengthening ideals and beliefs, and establishing correct value orientation.

In August 2020, Pan Jianfeng, Dean of the Law School, and Guo Li, Party Secretary, led a group of 179 undergraduate students to Yan'an City in Shaanxi Province, Zhangbei County in Hebei Province, Fuzhou City in Fujian Province, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with various themes of the New Era through online and offline practical teaching of Civics and Political Science courses. In addition, PKU's young law students were guided to write their thesis on the motherland, which created fertile breeding ground for students to understand the national and social conditions, remember the mission and take up the responsibility, and cultivate family and national sentiments in their physical actions. From July to August 2020, under the organization of the Youth League Committee of the Law School, nine practice teams consisting of 127 student cadres and group members of the Law School took a combination of online and offline approaches to Jiangsu, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hebei, Shandong, Hunan, Beijing, Shanghai, Hubei, Zhejiang, Henan, Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, Tianjin, Shaanxi and other places to carry out "poverty alleviation", "ecological civilization construction observation activities", "judicial response under the epidemic", "excellent graduates interview ", "Excellent Party Member Interview", "Protection of Non-Left Heritage", "Summer Teaching Volunteer Service", "E-Commerce Poverty Alleviation" to encourage young law students to have faith in their hearts, grow up in the service of the people, sharpen their willpower and quality in the hard work, grow their working skills in practice, strengthen their ideals and beliefs in learning and practicing, and carry out their original missions in their vigorous efforts.

The volunteers of LLM Union of Peking University carried out the "Summer E-Commerce Live Streaming Program for Poverty Alleviation" and actively joined the front line of the battle against poverty, selling special agricultural products in Zhangbei County, Hebei Province by means of Taobao Live Streaming and Tiktok Short Video Production to help the poor people increase their income and get rich. The volunteers carried out dozens of live broadcasts in Taobao Live, and more than ten short video videos released in Tiktok Short Video, with a cumulative play count of more than 112,000 times and a total income of more than 1,600 yuan. The relevant deeds were reported by more than ten media, including Xinhua News Agency, and selected as one of the top 100 summer practice groups for college students in China Youth Daily.

Extracurricular academic practice is an important extension and useful supplement of classroom education, which is important for stimulating students' interest in academic research, creating an academic culture on campus, and cultivating high-quality talents with learning ability, practical ability and innovation ability.

In 2020, the Law School actively encouraged students to participate in various academic competitions represented by the Challenge Cup. In the 28th "Challenge Cup" series of Peking University, the Law School won the first prize of the group (the "Winning Cup"), one special prize, one second prize and two third prizes in the May Fourth Youth Science Award Competition, and one second prize in the Interdisciplinary Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition. The Law School has long attached importance to youth volunteer work, and the concept of "gathering youth power, practicing the ideals of the rule of law, and interpreting the spirit of volunteerism" has been running through the whole process of volunteer work, forming a system of social practice and volunteer service that combines practical research and public service. The Legal Aid Association was awarded the outstanding team of young volunteers of Peking University, and Peng Yan, a 2017 undergraduate student of the Law School, Xiao Yao, a 2017 undergraduate student, and Zhang Xiaozhe, a 2018 undergraduate student, were awarded the annual models of young volunteers of Peking University of the 2019-2020. In 2020, the Law School achieved outstanding results in legal practice training, and all teams achieved outstanding results in many legal practice competitions at home and abroad.

On April 25, the award ceremony of the 61st Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held online, and the Peking University team, composed of students from the Law School, won the Best Plaintiff's Brief Award, ranking first among 136 teams from more than 90 countries and regions. This is the first time that a team from mainland China has won this award in the Jessup International Competition; the team ranked 19th overall in the pleadings and won the Alona E. Evans Pleading Award.

On June 19, the award ceremony of the "Nuremberg Moot Court 2020" (International Criminal Moot Court Competition) was held online. After a fierce competition, the Peking University team, composed of law school students, was selected from 65 teams from 40 different countries around the world and won the top 12 overall global ranking.

In the afternoon of December 20, the 17th CASC Cup Manfred Lachs International Space Law Moot Court Competition of China Space Law Society came to a successful conclusion at Beijing Institute of Technology. After a fierce competition, the team from Peking University Law School achieved good results and won the championship (Grand Prize) again. Ren Ziyang, a 2017 undergraduate student of the Law School, won the title of "Best Oralist", Xin Jie, a 2020 master, won the title of "Outstanding Oralist", and Zhang Kangle, a postdoctor, won the title of "Outstanding Faculty Adivisor" and “Best Memorial Coach”.

The Law School actively responds to the call of the nation to encourage college graduates to go to the west and the grassroots for employment, and vigorously guides young law students to take root in the grassroots and contribute themselves where the Party and the people need them most. In 2020, students of the Law School performed well in various cultural and sports activities of the university, fully demonstrating the youthfulness of young law students.

From May 2 to 4, 702 law students of Peking University participated in the second May Fourth Youth Run in different areas of China, celebrating the May Fourth and the birthday of the alma mater, running a total of nearly 4,000 kilometers. The footprints of the students and faculty members were painted with the characters of "Patriotism", "May Fourth", "PKU", "Peking University", "Love" and so on.
