SUN Haochen: Tension Between Utility and Dignity: Rethinking the Utilitarian Foundation of Data Protection Laws in China and the United States
At noon on September 25, 2025, Professor Sun Haochen from the Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), served as the guest speaker for the”Digital Rule of Law Academic Frontiers” Lecture Series and delivered an academic lecture entitled “Tension Between Utility and Dignity: Rethinking the Utilitarian Foundation of Data Protection Laws in China and the United States”. The lecture was hosted by Dai Xin, Vice Dean and Tenured Associate Professor of Peking University Law School (PKU Law), with Yang Ming, Tenured Associate Professor of PKU Law, acting as the discussant. Many faculty members and students participated in the on-site exchanges, creating a lively atmosphere.

Lawrence Lessig: On the Challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the American Political System
On the morning of July 8, 2025, the renowned contemporary jurist Professor Lawrence Lessig, Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School, delivered an academic lecture entitled”Artificial Intelligence and Democratic Politics”in the Academic Lecture Hall of Kaiyuan Building, Peking University Law School (PKU Law). This event was a special session of the”Summer School on Theoretical Perspectives and Practical Frontiers of Digital Rule of Law”, co-hosted by PKU Law and Peking University Research Center for Digital Rule of Law, with support from Pkulaw and live-streamed on the”Pkulaw Academy”platform. Professor Dai Xin, Vice Dean and Tenured Associate Professor of PKU Law, served as the moderator, while Professor Zhang Linghan from the Research Institute of Digital Rule of Law at China University of Political Science and Law and Associate Professor Hu Ling from PKU Law acted as discussants. More than 160 students, scholars, and practicing professionals from on and off campus attended the event, which received an enthusiastic response.
