Burkhard Hess: Judicial Communications
On the evening of November 24, 2025, Professor Burkhard Hess, Global Chair Professor at Peking University Law School and Professor at the University of Vienna (Austria), delivered a lecture entitled “Judicial Communications”. The lecture was hosted by Cao Zhixun, Tenured Associate Professor of Peking University Law School, with Fu Yulin, Professor of Peking University Law School, and Jin Yin, Associate Professor of the School of Law, Renmin University of China, serving as commentators. Adopting a hybrid format combining offline and online participation, the lecture attracted faculty, students, and researchers from both on and off campus—who attended in person at Room 307, Kaiyuan Building, or joined remotely via the Tencent Meeting platform—and received an enthusiastic response.

Sean Cooney: Focused Perspectives on Labor Law in South Asia: From Colonial Legacies to Contemporary Challenges
On September 15, 2025, Professor Sean Cooney, Global Chair Professor at Peking University Law School and Professor at the Faculty of Law, The University of Melbourne (Australia), delivered an academic lecture entitled “Focused Perspectives on Labor Law in South Asia”. Hosted by Professor Ye Jingyi from Peking University Law School, the lecture featured Associate Professor Chen Yifeng (Tenured Associate Professor of Peking University Law School) as the discussant, with participants including Wang Tianyu, Researcher at the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Wu Yixuan, Lecturer at the School of Law, Beijing Foreign Studies University; Qi Yiduo, Convenor of the Labor Law Practice Group at Hengdu Law Firm; and numerous faculty members and students from the Law School. The venue was packed with an enthusiastic atmosphere, fully reflecting the academic community's high attention to this topic.
At the outset of the lecture, host Professor Ye Jingyi introduced Professor Cooney's academic background: he holds practicing qualifications in both labor law and administrative law, and his research spans legal history, comparative labor law, and occupational health and safety, among other fields. She specifically noted that Professor Cooney is a long-time friend of Peking University Law School and its Institute of Social Law, having maintained extensive and fruitful cooperation and exchanges over the years. In recent years, in his capacity as a “Global Chair Professor” at Peking University Law School, he has taught at the school multiple times and jointly supervised several students with the institution. Professor Cooney not only excels in theoretical research but also has long been involved in labor law reform projects, providing practical policy recommendations on labor law frameworks to countries such as India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Vietnam at the practical level. The integration of his academic rigor and practical experience endows his lectures with both theoretical depth and real-world relevance. Professor Ye Jingyi further emphasized that Professor Cooney is widely recognized internationally as a “bridge” between the academic and policy communities, and his research offers valuable insights for understanding the current global labor governance landscape.

On September 17, 2025, Professor Sean Cooney, Global Chair Professor at Peking University Law School and Professor at the Faculty of Law, The University of Melbourne (Australia), delivered an academic lecture entitled “Occupational Health and Safety and Mental Health”. The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Yan Tian, Tenured Associate Professor of PKU Law. Nearly 100 students engaged in interactive discussions with the keynote speaker, and the event received an enthusiastic response.

Anne Peters: International Law in (E)motion
On May 22, Lecture 92 the Global Chair Classroom, entitled “International Law in (E) motion” was successfully held at Kaiyuan Building, Peking University Law School . Hosted by PKU Law School, this lecture featured a keynote speech by Professor Anne Peters (Pei De'an), Director of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law (Germany) and Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of Law, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich). The lecture was hosted by Assistant Professor Zhang Kangle from PKU Law School. Dozens of teachers and students attended the event on-site, which received an enthusiastic response.

Anne Peters: The UN Security Council embedded in the International Rule of Law
On May 12, Lecture 91 of the Global Chair Classroom at Peking University Law School was successfully held. Entitled “The UN Security Council embedded in the International Rule of Law”, this lecture was delivered by Professor Anne Peters (Pei De'an), Director of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law (Germany) and Global Chair Professor at PKU Law School. Serving as discussants were Professor Zhang Xinjun from Tsinghua University Law School, Assistant Professor Lai Huaxia from Peking University's School of International Studies, and Chu Jiawei, Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Research Fellow at Tsinghua University Law School. The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Chen Yifeng from PKU Law School, with a large audience of faculty members and students in attendance for the seminar.
