Professor Simon Chesterman Conferred the Peking University-Jones Day Chair Professorship of Globalization and Rule of Law

  
Professor Simon Chesterman was conferred the Peking University-Jones Day Chair Professorship of Globalization and Rule of Law in April 2024. 
 
Simon Chesterman is David Marshall's Professor and Vice Provost at the National University of Singapore, where he is also the founding Dean of NUS College. He serves as Senior Director of AI Governance at AI Singapore and Editor of the Asian Journal of International Law. Previously, he was Dean of NUS Law from 2012 to 2022 and Co-President of the Law Schools Global League from 2021 to 2023.
  
While at PKU Law, Professor Chesterman also delivered two talks on artificial intelligence. In the first talk, with the title “Good Models Borrow, Great Models Steal: Intellectual Property Rights and Generative AI”, Professor Chesterman discussed the dual challenges generative AI poses to intellectual property and the obstacles in its regulation. The participants exchanged their views on generative AI and how it should be regulated. The second talk, titled “How Will Digital Technologies and AI Change Universities in the Coming Decade?”, focused on opportunities and challenges of AI in higher education.
