Professional Biography
Stewart J. Schwab was appointed the Allan R. Tessler Dean of Cornell Law School on January 1, 2004. He has been a member of the Cornell Law School faculty since 1983. A native of North Carolina, he obtained his J.D. as well as a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan. After Law School, Dean Schwab clerked for Judge Phillips of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and then for Justice Sandra Day O‘Connor of the U.S. Supreme Court. Dean Schwab is a leading scholar in economic analysis of law and in employment law. He is currently a Reporter for the American Law Institute’s Restatement of Employment Law, and in 2008 was named by Human Resource Executive as one of the 50 most powerful employment attorneys in America. Professor Schwab is a popular teacher, having taught many courses in the curriculum, including Torts, Contracts, Corporations, Employment Law, Labor Law, and Empirical Legal Studies, among others.
