The Law Society of Hong Kong visited Peking University Law School Exchange Symposium successfully held

On the morning of 27 March 2023, President of the Law Society of Hong Kong, Mr Chen Zeming, led a delegation to visit Peking University Law School. Liu Chunhua, Director of the Legal Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Xie Han, Director of the Liaison Office of the Law Department, Shu Haowei, Cadre of the Law Department, Li Shuang, Deputy Director of the Legal Department of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Qiang Shigong, Director of the Department of Social Sciences and Professor of the Law School of Peking University, Zhou Jing, Vice Minister of the International Cooperation Department of Peking University, Guo Yi, Dean and Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Law, Dai Xin, Vice Dean, Professor of the School of Law and member of the Macao Basic Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Chen Duanhong, Long-term Associate Professor Ji Hailong, Assistant Professor Zuo Yilu, Liao Xuexia, Assistant Dean and Director of the Office of External Affairs Dr. Li Yuanyuan met with the delegation and exchanged views on topics such as the course of "Cross-border Legal Services and Risk Management" and lawyer training for long-term cooperation.

 

 

 

 

 

On behalf of the College, Dean Guo welcomed the delegation of the Law Society of Hong Kong and briefly introduced the development of Peking University Law School. He said that Peking University Law School is among the best law school in Chinese mainland in the evaluation of the Ministry of Education and international rankings, and has also achieved outstanding results in the research and curriculum of the Basic Law of Hong Kong and Macao. Peking University Law School adheres to the national strategy of cultivating foreign-related rule of law talents, and has also been rated as a national foreign-related rule of law research base, and has carried out fruitful cooperation with overseas institutions, especially Hong Kong education circles and practical circles, over the years. The Law Society of Hong Kong insists on offering the course "Cross-border Legal Services and Risk Management" at the Law School of Peking University, and the two sides will strengthen cooperation in the future to jointly promote the cultivation of foreign-related rule of law talents and the development of China's rule of law construction.

 

 

 

President Chen Zeming thanked Dean Guo and colleagues of Peking University Law School for their warm hospitality. He said that the Law Society of Hong Kong is a body for Hong Kong lawyers to self-regulate, maintain professional legal conduct, and communicate and cooperate with the Hong Kong government on new legal issues. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to develop Chinese-style modernization, and Hong Kong lawyers have strong foreign-related capabilities and rich experience in handling cross-border trade, which are conducive to serving the country's rule of law. Over the years, the Law Society of Hong Kong has cooperated with Peking University Law School to offer the course "Introduction to Cross-border Legal Services and Risk Management, Cross-border Lawyers", which has been recognized and praised by Peking University teachers and students, and in the future, we will not only continue to offer this course, but also look forward to further strengthening cooperation with Peking University Law School in the fields of law firm management and industry operation.

 

 

 

Minister Liu Chunhua fully affirmed the cooperation between Peking University Law School and the Law Society of Hong Kong in the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents. He pointed out that one of the keys to the construction of the rule of law in the country is to expand the stability of the rule of law, and giving play to the unique advantages of one country, two systems and cultivating high-end legal talents is an important measure to implement and promote the construction of the rule of law. It is expected that the two sides will further carry out useful cooperation in the future and contribute to the development of the country's rule of law.

Afterwards, members of the delegation expressed their feelings and suggestions on participating in the course "Introduction to Cross-border Legal Services and Risk Management" and the future cooperation between the Law Society of Hong Kong and Peking University Law School. Representatives of students who took the elective courses also exchanged their experiences with the visiting lawyers on the learning issues of the courses. The students thanked the lawyers of the Law Society of Hong Kong for their selfless dedication to the course, which laid a good foundation for their future growth in the legal profession. The delegation was also impressed by the students' fluency in English and course experience.
