The Vocational Literacy of Judge Seminar (Phase 2) was successfully held by Peking University Law School - No. 2 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing

On the morning of October 9, 2019, the opening ceremony of the Vocational Literacy of Judge Seminar was successfully held in the Academic Lecture Hall of Kaiyuan Building of the Law School by Peking University Law School - No. 2 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing. Bi Dongli, as a member of the party group and the director of political department of No. 2 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing, and Yang Xiaolei, deputy dean of Peking University Law School, attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Shi Shi, director of the Domestic Cooperation Office of Peking University Law School.

In the opening speech, the deputy dean Yang Xiaolei, firstly expressed warm welcome to the leaders and trainees of No.2 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing on behalf of Peking University Law School, and then expressed his gratitude to the trainees for their positive participation while having a busy schedule. Deputy dean Yang pointed out that in the ever-changing information age, only continuous learning can help us better understand the laws and facts in change. Thus vocational training is an effective "additional education" opportunity. It is a process to improve the mutual support of teaching and learning by returning the judicial officers at the front of trial back to law school and working with the teachers on knowledge production and knowledge innovation so as to feed back legal practice. The freedom of thought, compatibility and strong research strength have endowed Peking University an excellent foundation for innovation. Dean Yang encouraged the trainees to fully experience the strong learning atmosphere of Peking University and feel the diverse ways of thinking. Finally, the deputy dean Yang wished the trainees a full harvest in the four days learning, and once again thanked the leaders of No.2 Intermediate People's Court for their attention and cooperation.

In the opening mobilization speech, Director Bi Dongli first thanked Peking University Law School for its support to No.2 Intermediate People's Court in the close cooperation in recent years. Director Bi pointed out that the vocational literacy of judge seminar was mainly due to three considerations. First, to implement the requirements of the central and higher authorities, which is to accelerate the judicial construction of the political and legal team, and strive to build a high-quality political and legal cadre team that is assured by the party Central Committee and satisfied by the people. The second is to improve the overall quality of the judicial officers, improve the quality and efficiency of each work, and achieve the training objectives of “knowledge reserve plus capacity precipitation”. The third is to strengthen the two-way exchange between No. 2 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing and Peking University Law School, deepen personnel exchanges and cooperation, and realize the organic integration of judicial practice and legal theory. In the end, Director Bi put forward three requirements for the trainees to “highly attach importance to this learning opportunity”, “concentrate on learning and guarantee training effectiveness” and “complete order organization guarantee training completion”, and wish the seminar a complete success.

During the four-day training, Peking University Law School invited many well-known scholars from both inside and outside the school to give lectures. The content of the course revolved around the current Chinese rule of law construction, China's social structure, military diplomacy and other topics, and also arranged special courses such as classical poetry, psychological construction, Internet guidance and etc. These courses will comprehensively improve the overall quality of the trainees in the seminar. Through visiting patriotic educational sites such as Li Dazhao statue and the Anti-Japanese Martyrs Monument, the trainees discussed how to inherit and carry forward the glorious tradition and fine style of our party and show the loyalty and responsibility of the legal person in the new era.

“The Vocational Literacy of Judge Seminar (Phase 2)” is a series of high-end training courses jointly conducted by No. 2 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing and Peking University Law School. It is also a great affirmation of the effectiveness of the seminar (phase 1). Since the two-way exchange between Peking University Law School and No. 2 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing, the two sides have conducted solid and fruitful deep cooperation in academic research and resource sharing, theoretical and practical exchanges, personnel training and social practice. We believe that in the future, a broader, more diverse and deeper cooperation will be carried out at the level of theoretical interoperability and talent development by both sides.
