On June 5, 2023, Peking University Law School welcomed Mr. Stephen J. Brogan, former Managing Partner of Jones Day, to hold an event entitled "Dare to Lead: Pursuing a Global Legal Career." Joining in the event were fellow Jones Day lawyers, Ms. Angel Huang, Ms. Joelle Lau, Mr. Peter J. Wang, and Ms. Jessie Tang, from the firm's China offices.

Mr. Brogan is currently a Partner in Jones Day's Washington Office. He served as Managing Partner of Jones Day from 2002 to 2022, and was Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's Washington Office from 1989 to 2002. Over the past decade, Jones Day and Mr. Brogan have generously supported the law school in developing a variety of educational and professional training programs for students who are interested in a global legal career.

In his welcoming remarks, Dean Guo Li noted that the law school community is in particular deeply impressed by Mr Brogan's enthusiasm about promoting rule of law and globalization, as well as his personal devotion to the development of legal education in China.

Mr. Brogan's keynote talk focused on the importance for lawyers to recognize the power of globalization and to uphold the rule of law. He emphasized that confidence, conviction, and charity are the determinant qualities for a lawyer to achieve excellence in the profession.

In Q&A with students, Mr. Brogan also shared experiences from his own career, discussed the firm's vision for diversity, and gave advice to law students on how to respond to challenges of the day, including that of the AI.
