Beijing university team won the 12th China Red Cross international humanitarian law moot court competition champion

On the evening of November 25, the 12th International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition of the Red Cross in Mainland China was successfully concluded. After fierce competition, the Peking University delegation team composed of students from Law School stood out from 34 teams and won the championship. Meanwhile, Jin Yuanyuan won the title of Best Oralist in the Final Round and Jiang Wanghao won the title of "The Runner-up to Best Prosecutor in the General Rounds".

 

 

The current Peking University team is headed by Professor Qiao Yifu of the Law School. Jiang Wanghao, a Grade 2017 undergraduate of the Law School, served as the leader and second lawyer. Jin Yuanyuan, a Grade 2017 undergraduate, served as the first lawyer. Hua Licheng, a Grade 2017 undergraduate, served as a researcher.

In the competition, the participants of Peking University played steadily and won all five matches. Although they were slightly behind in the first day's integral competition, on the eve of the final, the players actively adjusted their mentality, supplemented their investigations and practiced diligently. In the second day's quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals, facing the interrogation of the judges and the sharp refutation of their opponents, they presented a solid, orderly and flexible defense. The legal professional foundation, clear logical analysis ability and accurate on-site response ability have been highly praised and unanimously praised by the judges. In the process of preparing for the competition, the team members were carefully guided by Mr. Joseph L. Pratt and lawyer Jake Clark; Shen Yiming, Zhang Jisen, Grade 2016 and Chen Haiwen, Grade 2017 undergraduates of the Law School, gave many valuable help; the League Committee of the College and other departments provided sufficient organizational support and logistics for the team members. Support; Teachers in all disciplines also provide the greatest understanding and tolerance for the team members.

Since its establishment in 1863, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has made promotion and development of international humanitarian law one of its core activities. The East Asia Regional Representative Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has held the International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition in Mainland China since 2007, aiming at promoting international humanitarian law in universities and establishing a good tradition of teaching and research in the field of international humanitarian law through cooperation with academia. The competition was co-sponsored by the International Committee of the Red Cross and Sun Yat-sen University. There were 34 teams from mainland China participating in the competition, which refreshed the largest number of teams.

In March 2019, Peking University team will travel to Hong Kong on behalf of mainland China to participate in the 2009 Asia-Pacific Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition.
