Law School Alumni Ms. Zhao Hong was Elected to the WTO Dispute Settlement Body



Recently, from the World Trade Organization (WTO) headquarters in Geneva issued news that Ms. Zhao Hong, a Chinese member of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB), was appointed as a new member of the Appellate Body. Ms. Zhao became the second Chinese member of the WTO Dispute Settlement Appellate Body after Ms. Zhang Yuejiao.

 

Ms. Zhao graduated from Peking University Law School with a Bachelor of Laws degree in Peking University in 1991, and a Master of Laws degree from Peking University in 1993, and a Doctor of Laws degree from Peking University in 1996. She is currently the Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Institute of International Economic Law of Peking University and Executive Director of the WTO Law Research Center of Peking University. She worked in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China for a long time. She has worked in the Department of Treaty and Law, the Office of International Trade Negotiations, the Anti-Monopoly Bureau, the Permanent Mission of China to the World Trade Organization and the World Trade Organization. Since January 2004, she has served as assistant negotiator (Deputy Director) of the Office of International Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Commerce, Deputy Director of the Anti-Monopoly Bureau and Minister Counselor of the Permanent Mission of China to the World Trade Organization, the World Trade Organization Division of the Ministry of Commerce negotiator. Zhao is currently Vice President of China Institute of International Trade and Economic Cooperation and a member of the Expert Group on Dispute Settlement Mechanism of the World Trade Organization.


Ms. Zhao has been invited to attend the International Symposium on International Law, International Economic Law, International Investment Law, Intellectual Property Law, WTO and Dispute Resolution held at home and abroad as an expert, and she has a high academic prestige.

Peking University Law School congratulated Ms. Zhao Hong on her election  and looked forward to Ms. Zhao's presentation on the World Trade Organization's stage to defend the impartiality and authority of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism.
