Chinese Law Students Visited China National Offshore Oil Corporation

On April 11, 2014, under the guidance of teacher Zhao Xue from the Law School of Peking University, the students of LL.M. Program, Short-term Program and Exchange Programs visited the China National Offshore Oil Corporation. Ms. Zhang Jingya, Mr. Zhang Weihua and other staff from CNOOC warmly welcomed us.

First, the students visited the exhibition hall of the CNOOC and had a basic understanding of CNOOC. Ms. Zhang and Ms. Du vividly introduced the history, organizational structure and future prospect of CNOOC. The students were interested in oilfields and gas fields, and actively communicated with Ms. Du about the energy industry.

Later, the students visited the conference hall and the section manager of legal department of CNOOC enthusiastically welcomed us. The section manager, Mr. Zhang, provided detailed explanation of legal department and answered several questions. Also, Mr. Zhang carefully illustrated the differences between lawyer and in-house counsel.

Through the visit, the students have a further understanding of the establishment and development of domestic enterprises. Besides, the students have the enthusiasm of being a lawyer or in-house counsel in China.

Finally, everyone was satisfied with this visit and looked forward to having another opportunity. The trip vividly illustrated how a giant state-owned enterprise functions in China and gave the students a good understanding of how in-house counsel works, arousing the students' interest in learning and practicing Chinese Law.
